‘Now the Universe has played a trick on me and I Don’t know where I exist. I’m Out Of Time…’
— Richard Proffitt

Richard has captured within this remarkable book, the very essence of what it means to find oneself insane. A psychological tour-de-force which pulls the reader into myriad of uncomfortable doubts and disquieting realisations.

“I wanted the Year of the Fire Rooster to be a sort of record of a few of the confusing and difficult experiences that I have undergone in my experience of bipolar disorder. I hope to convay not only the psychotic disturbance, the loss of ego, the endless weeks of feeling so depressed and vile that even the thought of making an effort to wash oneself is unobtainable fantasy - but not only these negative aspects, but the ecstacy of delusions and mania that make each moment become a holy moment and turn thoughts into the living reality of a divine and immaculate self.” — Richard Proffitt

From the highs to the depths

Bipolar disorder, substance abuse, self-harm, creativity & sexuality are areas that can both support and repel one-another; It's not an easy fate to deal with - but often the insights make the whole search for meaning a worthy one.

When I am not writing poetry or creating images, I like to follow the more sober persuits of web design & development. The emphasis on logical processes provides me with a welcomed left-brain — right-brain ballance and I enjoy developing a presence on the internet.

Psychotic &slquo;visions&srquo; from the hell of a fragmented mind...

“I have discovered that the only way that I can retain any kind of &slquo;sanity&srquo; is to work creatively through my illness. Art is my antidote to poor mental health and I believe that only by working creatively together can we solve many of our social problems.”
